Coeliac disease ???

i have just been diagnosed with coeliac disease by blood tests.
the doctors want me to have a intestinal biopsy and endoscopy. should I agree to have this done ??? also if you have the same thing as me can you please tell me how you deal with it ? thankyou and much appreciated !!! p.s. is coeliac disease serious ?

Go to webmd.com to the support groups bulletin boards for Celiac Disease and post your message there. You should hear back from a number of other celiac folks, one of whom is Trudy, a woman with a wealth of knowledge and empathy -- she knows exactly what you are dealing with and can help, trust me.

Good luck!

Coeliac disease or celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder of the small bowel that occurs in genetically predisposed individuals in all age groups after early infancy. Symptoms may include diarrhoea, failure to thrive (in children) and fatigue, but these may be absent and associated symptoms in all other organ systems have been described. It affects approximately 1% of Caucasian populations, though it is significantly underdiagnosed. A growing portion of diagnoses are being made in asymptomatic persons as a result of increasing screening.[1]

Coeliac disease is caused by an abnormal reaction to gliadin, a gluten protein found in wheat (and similar proteins of the tribe Triticeae which includes other cultivars such as barley and rye). Upon exposure to gliadin, the body's immune system cross-reacts with the enzyme tissue transglutaminase, causing an inflammatory reaction that leads to flattening of the lining the small intestine, which interferes with the absorption of nutrients. The only effective treatment is a diet, lifelong in principle, from which gluten is absent.

This condition has several other names, including: c艙liac disease (with ligature), c(o)eliac sprue, non-tropical sprue, endemic sprue, gluten enteropathy or gluten-sensitive enteropathy, and gluten intolerance

It is serious. I was diagnosed 9 years ago. Biopsy only can confirm the diagnose. It is not so difficult to live with it. You need to be carreful of what to eat. And what is worst, You can not drink beer. What You can not eat is WHEAT, OATS, MALT, RYE and BARLEY. You CAN eat meat, corn, rice, all vegetables etc. Be carreful of starches used in chocolates, sweets and everything, because they can be products of those You can not eat. They also can be maize or potato starches, whitch You can.
It is not easy to get used to it, but dont worry, it is a normal life, there are much worse things and dietes.
I am from Slovakia, we have some web pages, but usually only in slovak language. You can try some Yours - it will give You advises.

And You can eat everything, what in signed GLUTEN FREE.
PS: Just smile and wave :o)

well,it's not serious...unless you love to eat bread or any other cereals...so,it's ok,all you have to do is avoid all food that contains glutene, some kind of dizaharide. and if you eat,by mistake, something that contains it, you'll get stomachaches, and diareea. the disease is caused by antibodies against this glutene

i have had the biopsy no big deal but only the blood tests were needed to confirm mine, reasonably serious
