What are the main sorts of medication given to people in intensive care? |
When a person is in an intensive care ward, what can the medical staff do to stabilise that person and what kind of medication / procedures might it involve? hi i work on intensive care myself.the patient would be intubated to provide a good airway.medication wise, they would be sedated and they will be on heart medication to stabilise the heart especially if their blood preesure is very low.while they are sedated they will also have some analgesia to keep them comfortable. It depends on why they are in intensive care. I work in a hospital with several different types of ICU units. Each one has a different specialty: neurology, burns, spinal cord, cardiac, geriatrics, surgery and internal medicine. Each case is also different. In some cases you may be trying to induce a coma other times trying to wake them up. pain management meds definitely need to know their diagnosis....try re-asking & include that & I can help you |
