Medics.... What's the difference between High Dependency, Critical Care and Intensive Care wards in hospitals?

The hospital I just spent several days in has all 3 and I got to wondering what they all are? In my day, it was either the Intensive Care or the 'You're not too sick' wards or nothing!

Sorry to hear that Hunney - hope she gets better soon

My nan is in intentensive care at the moment. She gets one to one care. In the high dependancy unit they get 2 patients to one nurse care.. not sure about critical care unit though.
