My mum is in intensive care.My son has chickenpox, ive had it years ago. Will i still be able to visit her?

I just want to know even though i have already had chickenpox, will i be able to pass on the infection to my mum in hospital?

If your mother already had chicken pox, then you visiting isn't a problem. If she hasn't, yes, you could feasibly pass it on through close contact. Regardless, when you do visit, wash your hands thoroughly prior to entering her room, and avoid close contact if possible.

Also, do not bring your son anywhere near the hospital. Regardless of your mother's condition, he could make other patients, staff, and/or visitors very ill.

I don't think they'll let you visit. Ask the hospital but I suspect they'll ask you to stay away ... sorry :(

ps: I had chickenpox as an adult and it's not funny.

You should ask a doctor to be sure

yes u can carry it with u

You should ask your mum鈥檚 Dr He might not allow you in.

absolutely. chickenpox only happen once in a lifetime so i doubt ur mum'll catch it unless she hasnt had chickenpox then u might carry on the disease and pass it on

yes but you should clean yourself good and make sure she has had it b4 you dont want to make her b even sicker...

I honestly dont know, you might want to call her Dr & ask....I just wanted to say I will pray for u in ur situation....I am sorry u have all this going on....God Bless You....Hope the answer is yes, so that you can go see your Mom....

If you had it years ago, you will have an ammunity. you will be ok, but your child no check with the staff to make sure. i believe i am right.

it s sad that it come at this time for your family....but does nt it always........i hope your hospital is like our where you have a bedside phone so atleast you can send her a phone card and she will be able to call you ......i m sure it take two weeks to get over them........

Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox. You can catch shingles even if you've had chicken pox as you can suffer a second outbreak of the virus, so I'd speak with the nurse or doctor in intensive care and ask. It's not just your mother but those who you may indirectly come into intact with in ITU

Check your mum had if before. Inform your case to the medical staff and observe the cleaning proceedure, as advised by the hospital staff, before entering the intensive care unit. Do not allow your son in the waiting areas of the hospital. Keep hima t home with a responsible adult.

i'm a nurse and i feel that you shouldn't visit your mum, as even if you don't have chicken pox you could give it to your mum (her immune system will probably be low) or another patient. You can get chicken pox more then once, if you get it a second time it is normally a mild form or shingles, and you are contagious for at least three weeks after your son developed chicken pox. Hope this helps

it will depend on what stage of the chicken pox's your son is at. Once the pox's appear on the skin your son is not contiguous any more its the two weeks before they appear that the pass them on.
Although you have not got them and have already had them you could still be a carrier for the infection. I'd say the safest and the hardest thing to do is not enter the intensive Care room. Even if your outside I'm sure in her heart your mam will know your there.

you can visit your mum if she has also had chickenpox. Best wishes to your mum to get well soon.
