My husband is in intensive care do I have the right to be with him a few hours after visiting hours?

He was shot he is 31 years old and we have a new baby..He is terrified and wants me stay until at least midnight visiting hours are over at 10..Do we have any rights? Is there a law that will permit me to do so?Where can I find this to show them?

I don't care if it's ICU or the ER, everyone receiving health care today REQUIRES AN ADVOCATE!!!!. ESPECIALLY if the patient is unable to monitor his/her own treatment, or easily voice concerns.

Unless you're proving to be disruptive, i.e. loud, interrupting to staff, agitating patient, a threat of any kind to patient(s) or staff, there is no cause to require you to leave.

Often, nurses (staff) appreciate a family member who can be of assistance - their loads are filled to the brim. Just ensure that you are a benefit, not a detraction to the care being provided.

having worked at a hospital the ICU is no place to to be waiting all night, they need the space. Plus you do not want to be in there when someone goes code blue.... The rules at the hospital are the RULES for everyone even the police can't change it....

As his spouse you have the right to be with him as much as you want, as long as, it does not pose a life threatening situation. You may give the same rights to your Pastor. Seek help from the hospital social services office if you have problems with the staff.

If your husband was not in ICU, I think that there would definitely be no problem staying until midnight. He is in ICU because he is in CRITICAL condition. As much as you would like to be there and he would like for you to be, you both have to realize that by sacrificing these two hours you are giving him more time to rest and his body more time to heal.

I am a nurse and I feel he needs his rest and your baby needs you. However, if you feel he is stressed when you are not there and he asks the doctor or the nurses if you can please stay...they should let you. Is there a hospital policy about no one staying in the room after that time? Ask the hospital director or the DON director of nursing. I have NEVER forced someone to leave unless they were doing something wrong to disrupt the unit or preventing a patient from sleeping etc...
