Why don't Intensive Care Units have bathrooms or showers in the patient's room?

Every hospital I've worked in requires patient's to use a bedside commode. I've always wondered why.

Because in an Intensive Care Unit, patients are generally in such a critical condition that they should not be walking around to go to the bathroom. These people are seriously ill and many time can't even get up. That's why it's an intensive care unit, it's where the sickest people are.

You're serious? You worked in hospitals? Probably because it's INTENSIVE CARE....geez....

When they are in ICU it is because they need lots of help. They do not want them up by themselves falling .... and also they need to keep an eye on I&O Usually people in ICU have IV's also.

to bad off to be able to or for the nurses wanting them to get up and do those things on their own, What did you do (work) at the hospital that you don't know that.
