I recently took an overdose and ended up in intensive care, since i was released my head feels better,?

im not sure if this is normal, i have always suffered with depression, and at the time of my overdose i was low but been lower. i just snaped, but from the moment i took the od to waking up and a couple of days after there was no mania in my head. the feeling of this was the best i have felt in a long time. i didnt intend to survive but did, now i would love the feeling again but dont want to take another overdose. any advice would be aprichated. im starting counciling soon and dont want to tell them this as i dont want to be sectioned.

the od was, anti depressants, beter blockers, sleeping pills and paracetamol.

You need to work with and be honest with the counsellor including telling them about this. If you dont you'll end up doing something silly again. They won't section you just for thet. I have heard of others having the same experience - maybe ts to do with the fact of you coming so close to death that does it xxxxxxx

On what did you OD?

The feeling of calm was maybe you making peace with earth. But only at first, since you still feel pretty good then maybe you just enlightened yourself to see how close you came and what people who love you have to offer, do not be so brave though to think that every time you feel crappy that this will work, next time you may not come back.
I think though that to stay in a better place you should spill your guts to your councilor, mostly because eventually he will find out. Besides, if you start to lie, it will be a LONG lie. You will always have to watch what you say to not allow him to pick up the fact that that happened. You will be covering lies w/ lies and that will cause more depression.

It could be that because you thought you were going to die, that all your worries and cares went away, however don't try it again please, it is workable and you should speak to your councillor about this, that is what they are for, you will not be sectioned. Depression is treatable not just by prescription but also homoeopathy, St Johns wort is the one everyone talks about, do some research on the net, you may find that doing something positive to help yourself will be enough to put you on the road to recovery. God bless you, have a good christmas. I wish you well

that was a warning next time it might be the morgue.

Sounds like you needed a near death experience to clear your mind. Unfortunately not everyone gets the idea right and they are gone for ever. How we learn about death and life does make a difference. We just can not deliver ourselves ; not from the womb and not from this world so, there will always be a right and wrong way out.

Be honest with the councellor, the more honest you are, the better your sessions will be. The calm and the goodness you feel is self harm. That is the calm and release people get when they self harm, however you tend to crash once the effect has worn off. Self harm releases a morphine like chemical in your brain, that gives you a lift, it is also addictive.

Overdosing on antidepressants will play around with your brain for a few days.

There could be another reason for this, I'm not a doctor. Just another self harmer.

I doubt your councellor will have you sectioned, if they think your at risk, they may talk to your gp. You said you didn't want to od again, so they'll accept that, but you need to be honest with them about your thoughts and feelings. If they were likely to section you, it would have been when you got out of intensive care, so would have taken by now.
