Friend's Brother on Life Support - Appropriate to send gift?

I have a close friend's brother who choked on food and has no brain function and is on life support pending donor issues. Would it be appropriate for me to send something to his intensive care room? I just want the family to know we are thinking of him. I was thinking of a stuffed dog or some flowers. As they will most likely be having a memorial service soon I wasnt sure if flowers would be the best thing to send.

He is 40. The family lives out of town so after the initial visit to the hospital they are not there for now. His only family left is two sisters. They buried mom last month. Bad month for the family.

If you really what to show the family support, forget the flowers and stuffed animals. Get a bag fill it with packaged snacks(make sure they don't need refrigeration), bottled water, rolls of quarters, puzzle books, magazines etc. add a simple you are in my prayers card, take it to the hospital, ask if there is anything you can do for them (mean it and do it if they ask for something) and don't stay to long at the hospital, they won't be feeling social right now. When my Mom was dying this would have so much more appreciated then all the other stuff.

Of course it's appropriate! It's wonderful that you are thinking of them.

I would send it there but the card should read to his parents.

Why dont you make a card. Flowers arent good. everyone brings flowers. A stuffed animal will only be more for the family to have to take home.

I am very sorry to hear about the tragedy... Flowers and card are both good choices. Tell the family you are thinking of them.
