Can insulin resistance go away?

CAN INSULIN RESISTANCE GO AWAY WITH TIME?

Diet and exercise leading to weight loss can assist with insulin resistance. There are also pills that can help with this too.

I have had diabetes for many years. When I lost 25 lb. I was able to reduce my diabetes medication by half. I also take a chromium supplement as well.

I walk briskly for 4 min. 3 - 4 times oper week and I also swim on the days I don't walk. Bike riding is also a very pleasant activity and uses up a lot of calories. I don't do it becasue I am "old" and have bad knees.

Whatever exercise you begin, start slowly and check with your doctor first if you are diabetic.

For diet information, see a dietician. Things have changed a lot in diet for people with diabetes over the years.

were you diagnosed with this? this is a diabetic and pre-diabetic condition. It can go away but you have to help it out the door. The cells have lost the ability to take glucose in. Glucose is carried by insulin to the cells but the cells are resistant to the insulin and the glucose is barred from entering so it accumulates in the blood. Walking briskly for 45 min per day will force the cells to become more insulin receptive. There are other ways and I leave that to other contributors.

With time alone? Unlikely, but it can be reduced, sometimes so much so that medication is no longer necessary, with weight loss.
