Does anyone have a lot of belly fat and insulin resistance? Trouble losing weight?

I am scheduled for testing to see if I am insulin resistant. SHe thinks I also have acanthosis nigricans. I am lost 43 pounds, and currently weigh 191. If the tests come back as she suspects, she will put me on Metformin. I don't go back to her for 2 weeks though. Is exercising during this time futile, or is it possible to still lose weight from my belly?

I have a chubby belly and I am also Insulin Resistant. I do take Metformin. I have PCOS. I did not exercise upon diagnosis, I lost 20 pounds in 3 months from taking the Metformin and eating 190 carbs per day. I am sure that I would have lost more in those 3 months had I excerised. I would recommend it only because I started excersing and I lost 7 pounds in less than a week.

lots and lots of cardio. NO SODA,NO CARBS,NO SALT,NO FRIED FOODS then u will see the pounds fly away! Good luck!

wow im insulin resistant & have acanthosis nigricans too....i hate it. I also have polycystic ovarian syndrome so its hard for me to lose weight. I was put on metformin for a while & lost a lil bit of weight, not much. i eventually stopped because it has the side effect of causing stomach problems & i couldnt stand it anymore. anyways, you can still lose belly weight...it just may be more difficult.

The better you eat, the more exercise you do, the less likely you will be to need Metformin. Now's the time to learn all you can about a good healthy, primarily vegetarian diet. Here's a nice article on belly fat: http://chetday.com/reducebellyfat.htm

If you want a more complete list of things you can do to prevent the inevitable diabetes demon that comes from insulin resistance (a precursor to type two diabetes), then treat yourself as if you ARE diabetic and read this:

Cushing's syndrome also causes belly fat with thin arms and legs.

Good luck
