What is insulin resistance?

What is insulin resistance?

Insulin resistance is the body cell's resistance to insulin. Normally, insulin is carried into the cell by insulin and with insulin resistance, insulin and sugar are rejected by the body cell's membrane thus increasing the serum (blood) level glucose and not satisfying the appetite of the cell and the body

It means your cells are resistant to insulin and won't let it in to help with cell respiration. It means you usually have to take oral meds to allow the insulin into the cells.

Insulin resistance is the condition in which normal amounts of insulin are inadequate to produce a normal insulin response from fat, muscle and liver cells. Insulin resistance in fat cells results in hydrolysis of stored triglycerides, which elevates free fatty acids in the blood plasma. Insulin resistance in muscle reduces glucose uptake, whereas insulin resistance in liver reduces glucose storage, with both effects serving to elevate blood glucose. High plasma levels of insulin and glucose due to insulin resistance often lead to metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.

Insulin is gatekeeper for cell doors. When insulin does not allow cells to open and receive glucose, glucose remains in the blood itself and can not be processed by cells. This is called insulin Resistance.
