I just started taking Metformin to control insulin resistance. Is it necessary when just eatinfruit and veggie

Also, if I take it at breakfast, lunch and dinner, does it overlap for snack times in between?

I have seen more and more doctors treating insulin resistance with medication because of the link between IR and what is referred to as syndrome X which is cholesterol, heart disease, stroke and poly-cystic ovarian syndrome.

Yes you need to take the medication as prescribed because sugar is the building block of most foods. All of those fruits contain fructose which is a simple sugar and some of the veggies contain complex sugars.

As for the timing of the medication a 3 time a day dosing covers the patient for most of the awake day. It creates a relatively steady blood level of the drug through out the day when the patient needs it the most.

Your doctor should be not only monitoring your blood sugar but also your blood insulin levels as those are what seem to cause syndrome X in patients with IR,

Have you been diagnosed with only insulin resistance or diabetes? It is not the same thing. Insulin resistance is a pre-diabetic condition and most of the times a doctor would recommend to control it with diet only. Diabetes most of the times can not be controlled with diet only and requires drugs like metformin.
