Insomnia!!!?

From time to time i get insomnia, where i can't get to sleep for the whole night and my eyes will water continously, thus disturbing my sleep even further.
Last night this happened to me, causing me to have a HUGE banging headache when i woke up.
I would really like to know why i get this from time to time? I'm 15 years old if this helps.
thanks

You're pretty young, I'd suggest talking to a parent and visit your doctor to find the root of your issue.

Try to correct it now so that it will not affect the rest of your life if that's possible!

Try to relax and shut your mind off, that is the main problem I have when I can't sleep, I'm thinking too much. One other thing can be if you nap at all during the day, fight it and you should have a better chance to sleep at night!

Good luck sweetie!

First, you should try & figure out *why* you are unable to fall asleep. Here are some common reasons:

1. Drinking caffeine during the day. You should avoid drinking teas & sodas with caffeine after noon (or altogether) to prevent them from keeping you up. Stay away from energy drinks as well.

2. Are you taking any medication that contains caffeine? Two common over-the-counter products that have caffeine are Midol and Excedrin. Make sure you look at the labels before you take something close to bedtime.

3. Are you worried or anxious? Try to get to the bottom of any emotional things that are keeping you up, and deal with them before you try to sleep. Talk with a friend or family member, or write in a journal, and let yourself set it aside after that and deal with it in the morning.

4. Do you get enough activity each day? A little light exercise each day can help you sleep better each night. Try going for a walk after school, playing sports, or even doing some yoga.

5. Do you give yourself time to wind down at night? Start a relaxing bedtime routine. Make yourself a cup of warm milk or chamomile tea and do something relaxing like reading a book in the 30 min - hour before bed.

6. If none of this helps, talk to your parents or your doctor. Sleep is really important, especially as a teenager. While everyone has the occasional sleepless night now & then, having them frequently could be the sign of a bigger problem.

Good luck & feel better!

Dear Leeca,

Having insomnia at the age of 15 is not a very serious problem. I myself suffered terrible insomnia when I was 18 years old. Just like you, I could not sleep during nights and became so listless the next day. But you know what? I cured it myself. You are young, thus it is also easy and fast for your to train your brain and get your sweet sleeps again.

The first 3 things that I suggest you to do immediately are:

1. Forget that you are suffering from insomnia.

It is no use to remember and put concern into a frustrating matter like that.
If you insist on thinking about the bad health effects that you are suffering now, you will get more tense and frustrated.
Wake up tomorrow and live, eat, play as other normal people.

It was hard for me to forget first, yet, once I forgot this fact, I found it more relaxed to live a life of an insomniac.

2. If you are having huge headache, you can take some pills to drive it away first. No worries.

3. Rest and relax on your bed, think about happy or fun things that you caught or did during the day. Remind yourself that you have another day tomorrow to live at your fullest. Do not let it pass away.

Leeca, please do not try taking any sleeping pills at this point of time. Try to cure insomnia yourself first, when you really cannot sleep for more than 3 days, we will consider the pills.

I hope this is the answer that you are looking for. As an insomniac myself in the past, I really want to share and help you overcome this problem. If you need more helpful information, feel free to visit my website at:
