Insomnia!?

can't fall asleep even when i am really tired. if i go to bed at, say, 10, i will finally fall asleep around 2 and wake up between 5 and 7. normally, i would fall asleep at about 11 and wake up around 9 or 10 (not during school days, of course). have had this problem for about 2.5 weeks. people have suggested drinking milk, herb tea, going to the gym, and reading. have tried all and havent worked. i am allmost 14, 6ft tall and158lbs. I have a good diet and am very fit. what can i do other than going to the doctor?

Sounds like you may have some anxiety about something. Even when you think you are fine, anxiety can be the underlying issue causing the lack of sleep. I suggest taking deeper breaths before you fall asleep to relax your body.

Also, you can try relaxing each body part, moving from your toes all the way up to the top of your head. It's a form of meditation/self hypnosis. In your head you can say "Relax the toes" then you take a deep breath. then "relax the legs", deep breath, "relax the knees", deep breath. ect. I've done it ever since i was little and it always works.

If neither works, you can take some benedryl if it gets really bad. It is commonly used to counteract allergies but it can also be used as a sleep aid.

I hope this helps. If it doesnt, you can talk to your doctor or a psychologist, or even the school guidance counselor. They have lots of resources and can help you with some more ways of sleeping easier. Good Luck!

there's nothing to do but go to the doctor that's a pretty serious problem.

you should be careful with sleeping pills, but if your sleep cycle continues this way you will become very unhealthy, a sleeping pill i was on that i liked was trazodone because it didn't make me drowsy the next day.

you should ask your doctor about it.

take melatonin1 from gnc they are an all natural herb.
hope this helps

I have insomnia too, but I had it a bit worse. I would go for days without sleeping, and I tried everything because I didn't want to go to the doctor. Finally I gave in and went, and they gave me some good sleeping pills.

The only thing that will really help you is to go to the doctor. I know you might not want to, or maybe think that it's too expensive. But prescribed sleeping pills are probably going to help you a lot more than any home remedy. You should probably go as soon as possible, because lack of sleep is really bad for your health. Some people with insomnia have even died from it!
