I have insomnia! Please help!?

As the topic suggested, I have been suffering insomnia for few months already. It occurs every one or 2 times a week, where I can stay up more than 24 hours because of insomnia. Whenever I try to sleep, my heart will beat very fast, causing me to panic, and unable to sleep. The feeling really sucks.

I ought to be honest. I have been suffering from depression since 14 years old, and I'm 18 now. It comes periodically. The funny thing is I have never seek for any medical help, including this insomnia medical condition.

I goes to bed ranges from 2a.m to 6a.m everyday, as I always play computer till very late. It has been like this for months already. I was afraid of go to bed too early (10p.m or so) and so I keep playing computer to make myself as tired as possible, but in the end I still can't get to sleep.

Every time I try to sleep, I get stimulated suddenly, and gets panic attacks. Can someone please help me?

Thanks all for taking time to reply me, and care for me. I didn't knew that I would be getting quite a large response, which tell me " YOU ARE NOT ALONE " . All are best answers.

Anyway, I don't consume caffeine related drink. I admit I play counter-strike almost every late nights. It makes me nervous throughout this thrilling game. I was wondering does it contributes to my anxiety disorder? I have been playing for 6 years already.

I would like to share something that actually happened today. I went to look for my ex girlfriend this morning, and cried. She broke up with me not long ago. When we were together, I was almost late for every meetings, as I had poor time management. In the end, she broke up with me. I regretted, and wanted a patch, but she said its too late. She likes other guys now.

Cherish someone before you lose him/her.

Basically, it seems as though you dont suffer from insomnia, you suffer from anxiety. If your heart starts to beat very fast, your nervous. Now, you may not even know that you are nurveous, but you may be. Sometimes being anxious, excited, nurvous, depresed or even worried can cause you not to sleep. Some people even fear that they may never wake up if they go to sleep, not trying to give you any ideas, but its true. At times, people may suffer from insomnia from the loss of something, such as a relative, friend, or animal.

Basically, don't lable yourself with things like insomnia or even anxiety, thats something only a doctor can specify. Secondly, have a srtong will, get some rest, and tell your self that everything will be okay. Just lie down close your eyes and stay there for hours until you fall asleep. If that dosent work, look back on your life and see if anything may have caused you to be tramatized or even not able to sleep. You need to sleep, if you dont at least get some real rest, your immune system will become weaker, making you able to get sick more often.

If none of the things that i have said helped, tell your parents. then contact a doctor. You need to figure this out. Just relax, stay calm, and try to figure this out. You will be okay and be strong! find something to calm you down before bed, playing a video game, reading a book, talking to someone special to you, or getting a pet. try playing an instrument to releave some stress you may have. Try anythins and record the times you may sleep, the times you cant, how long you stay up for or dont stay up for. Contact a doctor if you truly are seeking professional help. suffering from depression and anxiety do cause these problems.

if it's that serious i think you should go see a doctor

Flax oil. For now. Look up colon cleanse.

i don't know what to tell you except to go see professional doctors and psychiatrists.. no1 will be able to help you better than them.. especially not people on the internet...

have you seen doctor? That would be my suggestion

First you need to go to bed at the same time every night so your body gets into a pattern. Try reading instead of the computer. The computer could be stimulating you rather than making you tired. Take a warm bath. Turn your clock around so you can't see the time. Sometimes watching the clock makes you anxious (used to happen to me all the time) and don't forget: exercise (but not too late bec that can stimulate you too)

You have a subconscious fear of losing control over the circumstances of your life. At bedtime, tell yourself to forget your problems until the morning when you wake up. To get drowsy, take two anti-histamines that have drowsiness as a side effect.

SEE a DOCTOR.
There are meds that can help with both these conditions.
Also, use lavender sented oils on your pillows.
This is a serious problem with panic attacks, and insomnia that affects your whole life, and you are not getting the quality life you deserve. Only you can help yourself, you are not 14 anymore, go seek professional help, please.
Praying for your recovery and Good Luck

For whatever your reason, you seem reluctant to see a doctor. If you want to avoid panic attacks you need to find the stressor that is causing them. If the insomnia is what causes you to stress at night, change your p.m patterns. The bedroom should be used only for sleep time. No t.v, reading, or computers. Also, a low dose of benadry; like 25mg is usually helpful since that is what sleeping pills usually have. Warm milk also has a chemical that induces sleep a little. Best of luck...

Lack of sleep can cause you to be ill. It is not good for the body at all. You need to seek medical attention and they can give you some medication not only for the anxiety, but for the insomnia also. This medication is not addictive and you will be amazed how much better you will feel if you will just give it a try. Good luck to you, been there, and done that.

You should probably get checked out by a psychiatrist. If you try that route and dont like it, then try the alternative medicine route - just look up some of your symptoms online along with keywords such as 'natural remedies' 'alternative medicine' and the like.
Do not look at the insomnia as the primary symptom - it is probably the third link in the chain - with anxiety coming first, then depression, then insomnia. I would suggest first trying things that help against anxiety - especially if you are going the natural medicine route. If you are working with a psychiatrist, they will probably try to target all of the symptoms at once. I think of psychiatric medicine as being a starting point - not an ending point (unless speaking of severe illnesses).

Good luck to you. There are no easy or quick answers to anxiety, depression or insomnia.

Oh - by the way - there is also a free anxiety/depression support group called Recovery Self Help inc, Its in many cities and the number is in the phone book, or you can look it up online.

.

Warm milk (not hot) about 20 minutes prior to retiring to bed will help and when all else fails start reading a book that would be good for you to read and it will usually put you to sleep before you get the benefit of reading it.

my question is do u smoke , drink coffee , tea etc . if yes then you got to completely stop that as this is disturbing your sleep . If not , and if u dont want to be taking harmful anti depressant , excercise every morning and evening possible . within few days u will get ur regular sleep back .
if nothing works , see a doctor , he will prescribe u antidepressant that will ease ur sleep .

try exercising , earlier in the day, dont eat late at night this can affect sleeping. trya nice relaxing bubble bath before going to bed also if everything fails seek medical help

good luck

There are a few things you can try:
1. Melatonin. The smaller the tablet the better according to studies. 300 mg (not grams) works the best. Your body naturally produces melatoning when the sun goes down and it helps create a drowsy feeling. By staying up late you have probably thrown off the feeling. Melatonin is available in the herb or vitamin section of your local drugstore. Primarily it will help you stay asleep.
2. Moving air. Use a ceiling fan to stir the air, causing you to breathe better. If you have gained weight in the past few years you may have developed sleep apnea, causing you to stop breathing regularly (as much as 60 times during the night) which in turn can cause your heart to speed up and wake you up. There are sleep clinics available in major cities and they may send someone to your home. You will have to get permission from a doctor for this to be covered.
3. Don't eat before bedtime.
4. Take a hot bath an hour before sleeping. A hot tub or jacuzzi can be very relaxing before going to bed.
5. Benadril is an allergy medicine that is over the counter. One of the side effects is drowsiness. If you have 8 hours to sleep before having to drive you could try taking this.
6. Quit playing video games at night!

try to stay really active during the day, go outside, excerise, run, walk, swim, kept your body moving so that you body gets tired and are able to fall asleep.it is also important to eat the proper foods. try not to eat fatty foods such as sugar or carbs like junk food which make your blood peassur rise and fall making it unstable. and if u have been suffering from depression seek some help if not try to stay active just go for a walk it doesnt have to be extreme workout. and if u keep having those panic attacks drink a glass of water and lay down and breath deeply and slow.try to stay away from sleeping medicine cause there is a risk of dipendentce. and before going to bed drink a warm glass of milk

I know what you mean. I have the same problem. I find myself cleaning instead of sleeping.

There is some good info at this website

i would suggest seeing a doctor and maybe a counsellor. thats what im doin about my insomnia, i still suffer from it now, but i just saw my doctor recently and started counselling. to be honest, my doctor didnt help much, she didnt want to give me anything to help me sleep but maybe thats a gd thing because i hear sleeping pills, sleep aids r addictive. but my mom suggested something from a health store, like vitamins n herbs.
MELATONIN is what my mom suggested, its something our body produces anyway. so ifeel comfortable taking, as i dont want to become addicted to anything, especially a drug.

I have the perfect answer! I would suggest getting lavender oil. This acts like a depressant, but it is not a drug. You can get this at a store that sells natural products of at Bath and Body Works. Just apply this to the temples, wrists, and nose. It shouldn't make you break out. By the way, it is not a good idea to play computer games before bed, as it could stimulate the brain too much. As for depression, you need to seek a counselor, or if you are religious, ask for prayer. Another suggestion is to read or listen to a good, relaxing book. Good luck and God bless.

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.
