Insomnia from STRATTERA: will it ever go away?


I've been on non-stimulant Strattera for 2 weeks. My psych & I decided to try it for my ADHD. We ruled out stimulant ADHD meds (Ritalin, Adderall, Concerta) due to my sensitivity to stims like caffeine & albuterol (quivering hands, nervousness, palpitations), & to the stim-type effects I had when on Wellbutrin (not technically a stim) -- unwanted weight loss & delayed sleep onset insomnia that never got better. (I went off that drug long ago).

It seems Strat is causing the same insomnia! Normally, I start feeling sleepy around 11p.m. However, since I've been on Strat, I don't start feeling sleepy until midnight or 12:30a.m. That's NOT an acceptable bedtime if I need to be up early the next morning! :(

To those who had insomnia on Strat: did it EVER get better? I hope my body will eventually adjust, & I'll get sleepy at 11p.m. again. However, it never adjusted on Wellbut., so I fear it won't adjust now either. Strat seems to be too "stimulating", despite being "non-stimulant". UGH!!

P.S. I realized something might be unclear. When I said the Wellbutrin-induced delayed sleep onset insomnia never got better, I meant ONLY while I was on that drug. My sleep cycle returned to normal within a week of quitting the Wellbutrin. :)

Maybe you should be on a higher dose?
I had the same problem when I first started it. Then within the first 2 weeks I started getting really sleepy early in the morning after taking it. Try taking it as early as possible so that its wearing off earlier in the evening and maybe you'll be more towards normal. Mine seems to bring me down too much almost.

You might need to totally change your diet and exercise to combat this side effect.

STRATTERA:
I feel that drugs are used for ADHD ( Children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder ) AND SIMILAR CONDITIONS, more often than needed if there is a loving mother who is willing to work with her child.
It could also be a condition of less oxygen intake by the child and deep breathings and even kapalbhati could be taught to these children.
Repetition might be the answer to stimulate a memory retention abilities of the brain.
Then there is question of certain foods allergies,
Ram Dev says white sugar is the white poison and in ADHD this could be a very possibility.
If the child has ADHD, it is my opinion that the child could use a loving person who would work very closely with him or her to channel the excessive energy the child is harnessing in his or her nerve cells.

About sleeplessness,
if you plan to eliminate the drug from use, reduce the amount very very slowly from the system.
Increase the level of the exercise and personal attention to the person.
Warm milk, fruit and honey might help fall asleep.
May be the child should sleep freely with the parents for a while.
I would leave a final answer by the research team of Sawmi Ram Dev and further reports as gathered from the parents.
