Will my insomnia from Prozac go away?

Since starting 20 mg Prozac four days ago (taken in the mornings), I have severe, severe insomnia. The first time I thought it was a fluke, but clearly it's not. I wake up constantly after tiny bits of sleep. When I do, I'm a bit anxious, hot, and fidgety. I'm really tired. I know that sometimes people take time to adjust to these meds. Will this insomnia go away, or will I have to try a new med?

my sister said that maybe you should cut your dose in half ...that's what she had to do to stop the insomnia. It worked for her maybe it will work for you.

ask your Doctor. I can't take that anymore. it wasn't good for me. :-)

I would suggest you stop taking Prozac. The best way to get a good night's sleep and cure depression is to get lots of good old fashioned exercise. Do it on a regular basis and watch the blues go away!

You should have NEVER started at 20mg of prozac! Your doctor should have started you at 5mg for 10 days, 10mg for 10 days, 15mg for 10 days and then go to the dose of 20mg after one month of your body getting used to it.

Of course you feel jittery, anxious and can't sleep! Talk to your doctor but my advise would be
don't take any prozac today
take 5 mg starting tomorrow for the next 10 days and slowly (as outlined above) get to the full dose.

Good luck! I think you should look for a different doctor because this one obviously didn't know what he was doing!

Contact your prescribing doctor, they might have to supplement or change the meds. Your prescription should have came with some side effects info, but this is clearly a problem that needs to be addressed. Usually there is like a 30 day span into which the meds take the full effect, but you still should make your physician aware of this now.

ummm libby doesnt know what she is talking about. they always start you on 20mg of prozac. i would call your doctor because this is obviously bothering you. there are other antidepressants out there that will not effect you like that. a lot of times you have to try one and see how it works for you.

It will go away as the medication regulates itself in your body. However, if it doesn't go away within two to four weeks, please consult your doctor. Also, Prozac takes longer to kick in as it has a long half life, so be patient. It is well worth the wait, believe me.

Best of luck.

Prozac, in my opinion, is one of the worst drugs available for treatment of depression. I experienced the same side effects that you're describing. I had liquid prozac and my doctor had prescribed 5 drops as my dosage. All said and done, I was on it , I felt terrible on it, I've been on other anti-depressants, my doctor knows not to offer me anti-depressants because I won't take them. For me, depression is better.

New med for you. That one is not going to work.Try zoloft.
