Insomnia and Cognative Behavioral Therapy?

I have heard that insomnia can be helped with cognative behavioral therapy. Does any one know how this works? I would be interested to know as I dont sleep well.

basically it only works if you can forget things that happened in the past, it works on the premise that today is the first day of the rest of your life, it is very difficult to achieve,
I found assertiveness training a whole lot better,
also try quiet night pills (herbal) they do work.

i suffer with that too! i hope i learn about this!

I'm 5 weeks into a 7 week CBT therapy course and there's no mention of Insomnia...

But this is what it is in a nutshell,

We can learn to identify (hot thoughts) thoughts that precede a feeling of anxiety and then rationalise them and find a positive spin, this changes how we think about problems and hopefully the brainwave patterns resulting in less anxiety.

That's how it's supposed to work, so i think they take the view that insomnia has an underlying cause like a stress issue.

http://www.beachpsych.com/pages/cc113.ht... is a study on CBT and insomnia

CBT is a load of rubbish!

It's the new 'in thing', but I've had it and it didn't do anything for me.

Take 5htp if you're having difficulty sleeping. It also helps with depression, anxiety, irritability and pms.

I doubt it would help insomnia to be honest.
Its aim is to change the persons thinking from negative to positive maining used with depression, anxiety disorders and addictions.

If you are having problems I would recommend going to your doc and asking about sleep clinics that would monitor you and have specialised informaiton to help rather than sleeping pills.
