Do cigarettes contain "poison"?

I have heard that one of the main ingrediants in them is also used for rat poison or insecticides.

Yes - there are over 100 chemicals in a cigarette filter alone - most, if not all are carcenogenic - i.e. harmful to health, cancer causing etc

That does not include the nicotine and tar in the actual tobacco -

nicotine alone, along with 50 other so called "poisons"

Nicotine is a nerve stimulant in small doses but poisonous in large doses, there are traces of arsenic and mercury in most cigarettes as well.

Many of the thousands of identified compounds in cigarettes are poisonous. The most dramatic of these is Hydrogen Cyanide, which passive smokers also have to put up with! This reinforces the excellent reasons for the smoking ban.
