OUCH! How can I relieve mosquito/other bug bites?

I'm very sensitive to insect bites, esp. mosquitoes, and have tried everything in the book. Topically I've tried hydrocortisone, tea tree oil, rubbing alcohol, baking soda paste, you name it. Orally I've got a good day pill. At night I use Benadryl which is great because it knocks me out to sleep where I can't feel the itchiness, BUT I'm up within 3 hours scratching myself awake. I eat garlic and take Vitamin B complex as preventative measures. I use bug repellent but the skeeters get me when I forget to spray. I've got prevention down pat, I need advice about the itching! I'm dying here, anyone have a miracle?

A dab of regular household ammonia directly on the bite works like a miracle! It stings for a second, but then the itch is gone! I also use aloe vera gel as it helps the bites to heal faster.

Thanks,I hope your bites stop itching! I know it's awful when they itch! Report It

I put vinegar on them to get the sting out. It works! Try it.

my mom told me to put a cross on the bug bites and it works all the timew if you have long finger nails. show just try it for a while to see if it works.

The divine creation knows as No More Itchies.

It's made for kids, but that stuff is amazing. That, and scrubbing the bites(gently) with Dawn dish soap. It takes whatever it is that makes you itch out of the bite, and neutralizes it.

Try an oatmeal bath as a temporarily relief method. Hydrocortisone cream also works wonders.

get some skin-so-soft body oil and they'll stay off you.

use some benadryll first and then take your nail and press an x into it. not hard enough to puncture it, but hard enough to leave an imprint. i dont know why, but this helps them disappear quicker.

This sounds odd but regular flavor chapstick brand (black tube) chapstick. Rub it on the bite. I have used this remedy for 25 years. Everyone is different though, but anything is worth a shot.

buy itching cream and some bug repellent for yourself to keep the mosquitoes/bugs away.

Calamine Lotion works good for all bug bites.

Sea Breeze astringent (ya know the blue liquid face stuff) my Uncle dumped this on my foot when I was a kid. It was covered in bites and it worked!! the itching was gone and they healed up quick.

HOME TREATMENT:
Apply something cold, such as ice or cold packs, promptly. Delay in cold applications results in a more severe local reaction. Acetaminophen or other pain relievers maybe used. Antihistaamines, such as chlorpheniramine or diphenhydramine, can be helpful in relieving the itch somewhat. If the reaction is severe or if pain doesn't diminish in 48 hours, consult your doctor.

I've heard ammonia does a good job, but haven't tried it, myself -- too stinky!

Also, where I live we have mean fire ants, and whenever I get bitten, I dab a little water on the bite, sprinkle on meat tenderizer that has papaya enzyme (Papain) in it, and rub. Just look at the labels...I have found $1.00 bottles of meat tenderizer that have this in it. It remains grainy, but I swear it does relieve the itch. Supposedly the same thing works for Portuguese man-of-war (jellyfish) stings, as well, so maybe it will work on mosquito bites!?

rub toothpaste on it for the itching. instant relieve

I heard placing a piece of scotch tape on it and leaving it for 4 hours on the bite stop the itching really well. try it.
