Is there inhalant insulin ?

Is there actual insulin that you can inhale and it has the same effect as injection?

There was!!! But not enough doctors were Rx'ing it or not enough people were able to take it, so it has been withdrawn from the market.

It's one nasty side effect was anyone with any kind of breathing problem could not take it. It caused them too many lung infections.

Its other effect that wasn't so good was there was no way to measure exactly what dosage you were getting. If you sprayed it on tongue instead of at roof of mouth, it was totally wasted dosage.

That may be a never! They still can't get the insulin past the digestive tract without destroying it.

Injections are not bad really, and they give me so much more freedom of food planning. Report It

Exubera is the inhaled insulin. I never heard that it got pulled, but i know there are a lot of problems with it. If you smoke you absorb more of the insulin than a non smoker, if you have asthma you probably wont get as much, and there is a chance of lung infections amoung other problems.

Yes, there is an inhalant insulin and already present in the market. Using inhalation as a new route of insulin administration was first discovered by the great Egyptian pharmaceutical scientist, Prof. Dr. Farouq Sakr (he is a professor of pharmaceutics in the Mansoura Pharmacy College in Mansoura, Egypt), he was the first one to discover the inhalant insulin.

Prof. Dr. Amgad M. Rabie

Yes, at least 2 drug companies are working on it. One version was introduced to market in 2007, but was quickly stopped due to many factors but the drug company basically pulled it due to high costs and few sales. There are few clear advantages over injecting insulin, and in fact the delivery method is very risky if not done perfectly, and the inhaler is bulky and not very portable.

Not a good idea at all, unless you are really scared towards needles. For now, inhalants are unknown to insulin insertion methods. Only the original method of injection is present to todays date.
