Vaccinated against influenza. Does baby get any immunity from my vaccine, being breast fed?

I was vaccinated against influenza just before our winter season(Australia). I breast feed my one year old baby (upon babbies request). Does my baby receive any of the immunity? I have a house full of children with the flu and am hoping that my baby would have acquired some immunity from my vaccine.

Your baby probably won't get the immunity to the flu vaccine you recieved through breast milk at this point. You could have vaccinated your 1 year, they may not do it that young were you are from though.
The flu vaccine only protects againts the most common type of flu. If your childern have a type that is not in the vaccine then you and your baby may catch it.
Was hands very frequently to reduce the risk of spreading it.

I found no information (readily available without a subscription to PubMed) discussing the passive immunity thru your vaccination, but it would seem that if a breastfed baby can get passive immunity from a Mom who is producing antibodies from being actively ill from the flu the same would be true of vaccination.

Hope this helps.

Normally, only the antibodies are passed from mother to child thru breast milk. Also, since this is passive immunity, the antibodies do degrade and are not active for very long.

you will pass some immunity onto your child, but most probably not enough to prevent your baby from getting the flu.
Your child can have the flu vaccine after s/he is 6 mos old though, it is not too late to get the vaccine for your baby though. Just keep her as isolated as possible and go get him/her vaccinated if s/he has not already gotten it!
Good luck, I hope everyone gets well soon!
