Is it possible to be immune to influenza?

My brother, my boyfriend and I went skiing 2 hours away and we had to leave right away because my boyfriend got crazy sick with the 24 hour flu and was puking and just horrible.

So me and my bro were talking about how we've never in our lives gotten the flu or thrown up from a sickness or anything. We don't get flu shots. I've had food poisoning, colds, mono and thrown up from hangovers but that's it. Is it possible we are immune to influenza?

Are certain people just born immune to certain types of viruses? Like in I Am Legend? haha. no, but seriously.

Influenza virus' change, that's why the flu vaccine is given every year to work against the most current common strain.
You've been lucky ... you're young (I'm guessing) and in good health ... that's why they don't give flu shots to anyone but the very young, very old or those at risk. For some young people their defense system is weak or they're exposed more directly than usual ... it happens, just stay strong healthy and eat well and hopefully you'll never worry, but the day could come ... my first was at 39 ... it wasn't fun.

I've been sick before and stuffed up-- but never had classic stomach flu symptoms. Also had colds, food poisoning, pneumonia. But never stomach flu. I've never had a flu shot nor desired one, because I know I won't get it.

My stomach is made of iron. Ha Ha.

My guess is that you are young and in good health. And your boyfriend just plain got unlucky.

It's not something to count on forever though.
