How long can Influenza viruses live on surfaces such as tables and counters, sink handles, etc.? |
See question. I am not aware of literature that has studied this in detail, however the general wisdom is "only for a very few hours". We know that the virus can be kept alive overnight if a collected specimen is kept on ice, but seeing that most surfaces are not "icy" I suspect a few hours is as good an answer as I can give. I think just about as long as they can find things to live off, so if the surfaces are full of grime and food particles., sugar, skin cells etc then they would remain alive. You need to clean thoroughly and regularly, and bleach based is especially good for killing these germs and parasites. |
