Missing my period..?

Hello!

I am a 15 year old girl who was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease last January. Because of this disease I have lost a lot of weight, and have been struggling to put it back on. Along with the loss of weight, I lost my menstrual period. I haven't had it for a year now. My question is this: What are the long term risks involved with not having a menstrual cycle? Will I be able to have children, or will my fertility be damaged?
Any other info would be helpful as well.

My doctor knows, but he wants to see if it will come back with my bowel medication. If not, he will have to discuss other options with us.

That is not good for ur body to miss ur periods. Talk to ur mom. If u can't talk to ur mom talk to someone u can trust that is a adult like a family friend, or a counselor at school or whoever it may be. But u should go to ur gynecologist to have it checked out. U might have to go on birth control to straighten ur periods out. I had to go on birth control to straight mine out. It helps a great deal. For u to have children when ur much older u might need to have a dr check it out. But I can't answer that question about if ur fertility would be damaged or not. It might and it might not. But don't worry about that right now. Just worry about getting ur periods more regular.

I would check with your doctor and see if he can give you a medicine not sure what its called but it will give you a period. If those don`t work than you could have fertility damage and its a possibility that you can not have children.

Definatly tell your doctor. It is not healthy to not have a period...some people skip a couple months but not a year. I also have IBS and have never had a problem with my periods. Tell your doctor.
