Can anyone think of a career involving studying infectious disease and their causes, but still pays well? |
I'm interested in infectious disease and their causes and symptoms associated with them, but I have looked and I can't find a career that involves this. Can anyone help me? I'm not sure where you're from, so I can't cite you any jobs in particular. I'm an ER nurse, and we work a lot with public health nurses and infectious disease (ID) nurses. They both study epidemiology and pathology of infectious diseases. It's a very interesting field. Good luck to you! phlebotomy technician--not only draw blood but test it --microscope it --and that pays very well--depends if you want to work in a lab or a hospital---the advantage this work --it is never ending and the career ladder gos high--good luck Infectious Disease is a subspecialty of Internal Medicine. Upon graduating from medical school, interested students complete a 3-year residency in Internal Medicine and then a 2-year (I believe) fellowship in ID. "Bugs and drugs" are all these guys and gals do; however, the common perception is that the salary is not commesurate to the amount of work. I'm an Infectious Disease (or ID) physician and from sound of your question, I think this might be a career you would enjoy. My job is anything but boring as I get to take care of people with all sorts of infectious problems (e.g. from HIV/AIDS and STDs to skin infections and TB). Because of my specialized training, I've been able to work all over the US as well internationally (I worked in Africa for a time). The monetary compensation is pretty great, too. BTW, I'm in my early 30s and still have time/energy for a life outside of ID (e.g. husband and a child), so if you're interested I say go for it! |
