How can I get rid of throat pain caused by viral infections?

This morning I was diagnosed with tonsillitis on both tonsils, and pharyngitis. I have penicillin for it but it will be a while before the pain goes. Apart from paracetamol is there anything I can do to relieve the pain?

try dequadin tablets.......think that's how to spell it!!!!

they have an antiseptic in them so they sooth and keep the pain numbed for a time.

Ibuprofen is good for inflammation and pain. Contra-indicated for asthmatics however.

combine warm water and salt and then gargle it.. it really works! just try it..

suck ice poles and eat ice creamit numbs plus tyrozetes or some other numbing pills forom your chemist work hope you feel beter soon xx

carvonia throat spray is good, it`s got an applicator that goes right down your throat.

take tap water mix it with salt swirl it round your mouth ang gurgle or take a paracetamol.

honey and lemon and only a good doctor

yes drink alot of fluids it will moisturize your throat.
suck on some throat drops with menthol or what flavour you like.
keep a warm woolen scarf around your neck
eat alot of fruits.
don't eat/drink milk cheese yoghurt etc because it will affect the penicillin.
don't overdue it with the paracetamol.
eat honey with lemon slices
or a grapefruit with honey on it

the best thing you can do right now is stay in bed and watch tv and eat some chocolate or nutella or something creamy and soothening.
and fall asleep.

avoid cold drinks and icecream
avoid 2 hot fluids

Try Ibuprofen (trade names: Motrin or Advil) these are antinflamatory medications and can also help to ease the pain and can be taken in conjunction with the paracetamol (APAP). You can also try gargeling with salt water, using a topical sore throat spray such as Vick's Chloraseptic Spray or an off brand or even cough drops will help with a sore throat. They are not just for cough......... Combat Medic Welsh

gargle with aspirin dissolved in a glassful of water. Don't drink it, though, if you're on Paracetamol. Diluted TCP is good, too

Try taking some baking soda mixed with hot water, it tastes yuck but it does the job.

gurgle with hot water mixed with some common salt...surely u'll get the result................

make ginger recipies with more quantity of ginger in it. or if the pain is more just consolt a doctor

you can add ibuprofen, but Don't if you have gastric problems or asthma. (unless you have taken it before with no ill effects) .
You can gargle on aspirin and spit it out apparently that is good but I would be worried about mixing too many meds.

85 % of all sore throats are viral! Statistically at best the effect of giving antibiotics in the remaining 15% which are bacterial is to reduce the duration of the illness by 24 hours.

Chlorseptic or Diflam spray may reduce the discomfort as will plenty of cool fluids and ice or ice cream. Aspirin gargles increase irritation and salt water gargles are to be avoided.

Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection . Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience.More details and home remedies available at
