Viral infection, worried might be something worse?

I have had a sore throat and a burning sensation on the roof of my mouth for 4 weeks, i went to doctor and he told me it was a viral infection cause my swab test came back negative, how long do viral infections last, i thought a few days only, im just a little worried it's caused by smoking, maybe something bad like cancer, i have been smoking for 7 years and im 20 years old. I'm trying to qiut. anyone out there who has had a viral infection that has lasted this long? It doesn't seem to be getting better.

Go see an ear, nose and throat specialist. If it was a virus it should have been gone within a few days of you noticing pain. If you aren't running a fever than it is not bacteria caused either. You should probably go to another doctor and get a different opinion.
