Viral infection after strep throat? how is that possible?

20 days ago i was diagnosed with strep throat. i took the meds for 10 days like i was supposed to. my throat became 100% better. but i still had flu like symptoms: cough, stuffy nose, sneezing, mucus galore, and a low grade fever. i called the doctors and was told i had a viral infection (over the phone). i am still sick and i'm sooo tired of being sick - it's been a month. has anyone else heard of this? should i be worried? what should i do?
