Viral Infection of the liver?

My Doctor has diagnosed with a Viral Infection of the Liver. He said something like Hepatitis but not necessarily Hepatitis. I can't seem to find anything else called a Viral Infection of the Liver that's not Hepatitis. Should I be worried? I looked up stuff about Hepatitis and can't understand how on earth I could have gotten it!

Hepatitis means that the liver has
inflammation of the cells. This can be
caused by a viral infection, but is caused
by any number of other things also:
(1) alcohol consumption
(2) medication that is harmful to the liver
or goes into toxification.
(3) chemical exposure
(4) biliary problems
(5) hereditary problems
(6) mushroom poisoning
(7) autoimmune disease
(8) fatty liver disease
(9) viral or bacterial hepatitis...known
as Hep A, B, C, etc.
And there are more.

Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver cells
like I mentioned above. If the liver cells
die, then it is known as Cirrhosis of the
liver.

" Inflammation of the liver cells
can be treated with medication and, if
the cause of the inflammation is
eliminated, the cells can heal."

The doctor has to fiqure out from your
blood work and maybe other testing, what
has caused the inflammation inside the
liver. Once he fiqures out the basic cause
of it, you will be given treatment
accordingly. The blood tests he does
will show him if there may be liver damage
and how the liver is functioning to do the
functions it normally does to keep the body
healthy.
Some things the patient can do now to
protect further damage is to stop using
alcohol, get enough rest, try to stay away
from those who may be sick, only take
medication prescribed by the doctor.
Tell the doctor all medications you are
taking, whether they be over the counter,
herbs, herbal teas, vitamins, minerals,
supplements, and medication prescribed
by other doctors. Medication goes through
the liver first before going to the rest of
the body....alot of medication, whether
over the counter or prescribed can be
hard on the liver and some can damage
the liver if you are sensitive to a drug.

As you can see, it will take a little time
to be sure exactly what has caused
your liver to have a problem.
The doctor may do an ultrasound, Ct scan
or MRI to be sure how the liver looks and
how far along you may be with this problem.

From what you posted, it doesn't seem
like the doctor has made a final diagnoses
of your problem...I hope that he will soon
so you can be treated.

Hope this has been of some help to you.

Does he not have the test results , because it sounds like Hepatitis, you can get that from eating raw oysters, mono. Etc.

There are several kinds of hep. When I worked at a daycare for 6 years i was tested for it and then given a vaccination to keep from getting it. One way you can get it is bad hygiene, say in food prep. This can be from eating at a restaurant. I think our local Taco Bell got in trouble for this about 10 years ago.
I'm giving you the Mayo clinic web site that has explanations of the different kinds.

I'm sorry you are not feeling well and hope you get well soon.

there is NASH which is basically fatty liver hepatitis- no viral tho.
more than likely he is suggesting you may have Hepatitis C
but...it could be hepatitis b.

All types of hepatitis are the result of a different type of virus.
One does not cause the other except in the case of HCV-

HCV can cause NASH. But NASH cannot cause HCV.
