What nerves can be affected with viral infection? |
A friend of mine had a viral infection and now she cant move muscles on her right side of face. In addition she has a loss of taste and dry mouth and can't close her right eye. What is the physiology behind this? There are twelve pairs of cranial nerves in the brain. This virus sounds like it has affected cranial nerve # 7- the Facial Nerve which controls most facial expressions, secretion of tears and saliva and also cranial nerve # 3- the Oculomotor nerve which controls eyelid and eyeball movement. Sounds like Bell's Palsy. This is a temporary infliction and will wear off as the infection clears up google Bell's palsy: that's what it is. Seventh cranial nerve paralysis.
