Okay, I have bladder infections every few months. I don't like doctors--what should I do?

I avoid doctors like the plague (which is odd, considering I'd like to be one...), and I want a fast and simple way to take care of my bladder infections. Yes, cranberry juice--I know that one. What are the best OTC medications? Do they fully clear out the infection, or will the infection continue to fester until I'm prescribed medication?

Sorry, months? I meant weeks.

Every few months makes it sound not quite as bad as this problem is. :)

AZO is a good over the counter product for bladder and urinary problems
Take cranberry pills every day.

It sounds more like cancer then a simple infection, you should see a doctor as soon as possible. Right now go to the ER if you can, I think you are just afraid of hearing bad news.

drink a lot of water and go when you have to, not wait til later.

It may not be bladder infections, it may be cystitis

I have used this product for the last 2 UTIs I've had, and it has worked great. Since I have had chronic UTIs in the past, I know when I've developed one early on, and started this powder. It tastes kind of like Splenda (which I don't care for, but it's tolerable). Now I always keeps some around, just in case. It's been such a help, since it doesn't cause yeast infections and then the potential UTI rebound.

I used to have bladder infections all the time! I hate going to the doctor beacuse they make you take the pee sample, haha. Well the way i got rid of all those infections is drinking a lot of water and cranberry juice but also.. not holding your pee in ( that sounds really weird ) but its true.. thats like one of the main reasons why i kept getting them

Take vit.c and drink cranberry juice.

Yeah, you don't like doctors . . . so you tell US about your bladder infections? Gee thanks!

usually the best thing to do is to go to the doctor and get an antibiotic. UTIs are a bacteria in you urinary tract and the antibiotic will get rid of the bacterias. OTC medications will help w/ the symptoms of the UTI, but they will not clear the infection completely. That is why it is best to see a doctor. All you will have to do is pee in a cup. Also if you are sexually active make sure you are peeing before and after having sex. That is the number one cause of a UTI in females.

Get some cranberry pills from either Walmart or your closest pharmacy. They're about 6 bucks and work great. I get UTIs a lot, too......if you take the pills regulary, you won't get infections so often. The pills work WAY, WAY, WAY better than just drinking juice.

Also, a doctor once told me that the reason some women get so many infections is simply because of sex. Men get bacteria on their hands, fingers, d****, which can be transfered to you during intercourse. The simple solution to this is simply to make your man wash his hands before sex and make sure he keeps clean down there....although, it's usually from the fingers (under the nails is especially gross). Although, personally, I feel taking the pills works better than yelling "Go wash your hands first!"

take some AZO pills..they do work! and obviously crandberry juice. also, pee always before/after sex

I suggest the easiest thing would be order the antibiotic over the Internet ,very easy ,pay almost same price as local pharmacy and don't have to see a doctor, just answer a few simple questions

Actually cranberry juice and products may not be the best thing for bladder infections, because it can cause a lot of sediment to build up in the bladder... which could be part of your problem.

My nephew has a horrible problem with this, and he'd been taking cranberry gel-caps for years.

I suggest drinking a shot or two of straight lemon juice once a day. The acid in the lemon juice will do your urinary tract a world of good, and the vitamin C will boost your immune system. It's pretty stout, but tolerable if you wait until you're extremely thirsty and just gulp it without taking time to tase it. It's okay to chase it with something else. I prefer a couple of green olives or a dill pickle... anything salty will do it.

Drink plenty of water, to keep everything flushed out good.

I'd try this for a couple of weeks and see what happens. By all means, if you have persistent painful urination, or if there is blood in your urine, see a urologist. These are signs of serious illness and should be professionally diagnosed and treated as soon as possible.

If you are sexually active... You need to pee after sex!!! Other than that, drink LOTS of water!

Pl. visit the doctor

A bladder infection every few weeks may very well be from not having the initial infection treated with antibiotics or there may be an underlying problem. Another thing to consider are products that you are using from laundry detergent to soaps, lotions, personal hygiene products that might have irritants in them. I can tell you from personal experience that I can not use baking soda body powder or anything antibacterial, such as Dial Soap without having some sort of major problem. Sorry, to inform you, but when it comes to a bladder infection there are no simple, fast solutions and the longer it goes on the worst it could get. They are nothing to play around with, you need medical attention before the problem escalates.
