Does blood pressure rise with bladder infections?

I was diagnosed with a bladder infection two days ago. The urine sample, however, was non-conclusive because I was taking AZO for the pain. The doc sent the sample to the lab for confirmation and further testing, but went ahead and treated me for a bladder infection.

I was a little concerned by my blood pressure at my visit. My normal blood pressure usually runs about 96/56 at its lowest and 112/62 at its highest. When I went to the doctor on Tuesday it was 138/92. Isn't that a bit too high? Is this common with a bladder infection for the blood pressure to jump real high like that?

Your blood pressure can rise for a variety of reasons including feeling anxious about the doctor's appointment, fear of having the infection, etc. Generally, stress can raise your blood pressure.

Generally speaking however, LOW blood pressure may occur with a bladder infection, but this is especially true for the elderly who can have paradoxical effects with UTIs. They may faint, become confused, etc.

Hi
It's not common but it can certainly happen
The blood pressure is partly controlled by hormones and other chemicals produced by our kidneys.
If the kidneys become inflamed then the level of these chemicals changes and this can have an effect on blood pressure.

Blood pressure can also rise just in general if you feel unwell or are anxious.

Your readings are nothing to be worried about but you should have them checked again when you have recovered from your current bladder problems

Hope this helps
Gordon
