Ok medical question about bladder infections???

if you have a bladder infection would it make any sense to have an xray? My best friend says that she has to do this, but i think its just an excuse to get out of work!!

No x-ray for bladder infections. You do a urine dipstick test and then send a sample to the lab.

If there is suspicion of a kidney stone, perhaps an X-ray would be useful then.

They would tend to do a SPECIAL x-ray to look at the kidneys, ureters and bladder (hence KUB). Sometimes they would do a dye study where they inject x-ray dye and do a KUB and then another and another to see how the dye goes through the kidneys.

These days, most modern doctors would to a CAT scan to look at the kidneys, ureters and bladder.

But this would be for a kidney stone, not for just a simple urinary infection.

if all you have is a uti then no an xray will do nothing. However, if she saw a urologist and they want this done then it needs to be done.

If she has chronic issues with UTIs then a urologist may want to do some radiological tests to look at the structures of the bladder, ureters, and kidneys. However, you typically only need this done once, not every time you have a UTI.

If she is having an ultrasound than that makes sense. An xray down there won't show the bladder infection. A bladder infection is so simple now to detect you can buy a kit at CVS and it will tell you. The ultrasound is if they are not sure if it is a bladder infection or possibly something more so when they do that then yes I guess she is getting a test, but not an xray. I doubt she's trying to get out of work but you know her better than I do. Take Care!

It really depends on what her symptoms are. Sometimes the doctor will order some imaging studies to rule out bladder stones, kidney stones, and masses in the bladder or kidneys. If your friend is having recurrant UTI's it is more likely that she did have some imaging studies done. They don't generally use plain old x-rays to diagnose any urinary issues... it is usually a CT scan.

If she's your best friend then you should just ask her exactly what's going on,and also it seems to me like you're more concerned about her beng out than you are about her health.Unless she is also your employee I would just be there for her otherwise you need to just try to be her best friend.
