Besides sterility, the person must maintain a proper balance of fluids, for tthe elecrolytes, pain meds. and good nutrition. All of these combined will aid in the healing process. I dont think that 100% sterility can be obtained unless the person is isolated in a vaccume tent. The best way to curb infection would be to change out dressings often and use antibiotic ointment. The ointment will also prevent the dressing from sticking to the wound and make it easier to remove with less pain for the patient
