Is there any way to prevent chronic yeast infections caused by birth control pills? |
I never had yeast infections until i started taking oral birth control pills. Over the years, I have switched brands, but still get repetitive yeast infections due to the hormonal change. I don't want to change my method of BC because I feel safest with the pill. Any ideas on naturally or chemically preventing yeast infections without quitting the pill? My Dr's just keep prescribing creams and diflucan and stuff like that... no real solution :S Yeast be gone - I've gotten great results with both tea tree oil and hydrogen peroxide douches (alternating with 1-2 tablespoons of tea tree oil to 1 quart of water and 3 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide to 1 quart of water for about 5 days straight). I also started taking acidophilus pills, 1 billion per capsule, three times daily before every meal. I will make it part of my daily routine after I'm cured as prevention. Birth control should not cause yeast infections. Well, I know that applying natural yogurt can help to soothe the symptoms, and also making sure you get enough of the 'good' bacterias in your diet to combat the unhealthy ones can help. I would really recommend seeing your gyno for this one, BC pills shouldn't cause constant yeast infections, once you stay on the one pill for a while your hormones should balance out. I would be more inclined to think that there's an underlying problem of some kind (not necessarily the pill). If this is the case however, try reducing the dosage, if it's high dosage the hormones could be causing an imbalance in your body. If you are taking a high dose level birth control pill, ask your doctor if you can reduce the level. This may help. Do you use anti-bacterial soap in the shower? this could be the main cause - anti bacterial kills the bad and GOOD bacteria, and actually makes you more susceptable to yeast infections...Try switching to a mild soap like dove - but just make sure it is NOT anti-bacterial Hey, |
