Can blood sugar being high cause you to have a yeast infection for a long time?

i am type 2 diabetic and i havent been on my meds for a few months and i have had a yeast infection i cant get under control is it the sugar count or the diete cokes?

Oh, it's definately the high sugars.

Unfortunately, type 2 diabetics tend to run into a lot of problems in terms of urinary care. They suffer higher incidences of yeast infections, urinary tract infections, kidney infections, as well as kidney stones.
If you haven't seen the doctor, you should and have him prescribe Diflucan(or Metronidizole, it's the generic form) and/or Terazol 7. Hopefully, that should bring you some relief. Also, plain(not fruit) yogurt and Acidophillus capsules(3 capsules a day when you have the infection and 1 capsule a day for prevention) will clear it up quickly too, and you can find those at any pharmacy.

And get back on your meds!!

Yeast infections are very common with diabetics. That is how I found out I had diabetes, I kept having yeast infections, so the Doc tested my sugars. Eat lots of Yogurt, make sure it says live cultures on the package. This will help with yeast.

Well, diet coke contains no sugar (only artificial sweeteners) so it shouldn't raise your blood glucose. Having a high blood sugar can make you more likely to get infections, I'm not sure about yeast infections especially, but I believe that it may be a contributing factor. If you properly treat the infection and get your sugar under control, it should definately help.

Yes certainly.

Diet sodas will not cause yeast infections. Do you eat too much sugar or carbohydrates? Carbohydrates turn into sugar. I'm diabetic 2 also. I've found that drinking some sort of cranberry juice every morning keeps it under control. I like Cran-Grape Light so it doesn't matter if you don't have cranberry straight. If I run out of the juice & don't get to the store right away, I get another yeast infection. When I start up on the juice again it goes away without having to treat it with Monistat.

Yes it can and a yeast infection is the LEAST of your problems. WHY are you off your medication? Diet cokes doesn't cause your blood sugars to rise--- but being off your meds does... do you want to go blind? because that is what happens to uncontrolled diabetes. I have been a diabetic for over 15 years and the first 5 the doctors didn't diagnose me and I kept having the symptoms. Have you noticed changes in your vision? Do you get very sleepy during the day and jittery at times? At night lying in bed, do your legs get sharp shooting pains that wake you up? The leg pains are signs of peripheral neuropathy which is the start of diabetic legs- the dying off of nerve tissues in your legs which eventually leads to gangrene and amputation... no joke, it happened to my father-in-law and aunt. Diabetes is like AIDS, there is no cure, you can only manage it-- I didn't mean to scare you however, you don't seem to realize the consequences of what the years ahead of you will be like if you do not stay on your diet and medications--- there is no turning the damage back on your body---it is not like other illnesses where you get a pill and the disease or illness goes away.. your diabetic medication only keeps the disease from causing MORE DAMAGE TO YOUR KIDNEYS AND NERVES.

Sorry for being so forceful, but you seem more concerned about the yeast infection which is treatable and curable than your diabetes which is treatable but NOT curable.....please get on your meds again.....sorry hun.... didn't mean to sound so mean..but I'm suffering from it too and I wish I had the 5 years back that they didn't find the disease......

Insist that your doctoe refer you to a nutritionist. This is no way to live! Just curious has a point with the yogurt. Get it from a health food store. They get it inlarge containers that are cheaper than the teensy choices in the "big"stores.

Antibiotics and diabetes melitus can also lead to an increased incidence in yeast infections. (Wikipedia)
Yeast infections may also occur in association with diabetes or problems that affect the immune system. (MedlinePlus)

Diet Coke is the #1 selling sugar-free soda in the world. Diet Coke (and other beverages using aritificial sweeteners) relies on Aspartame, which has been blamed by some scientists and medical professionals for possibly causing serious illnesses (such as brain tumors, brain lesions, and lymphoma) when consumed in large quantities. Other researchers have found no such link, or believe that the quantities in sodas such as Diet Coke are much too small to cause adverse effects.
Please see the web pages for more details on Candidiasis and Diet coke.

Yes it can. Diabetes makes you more susceptible to any type of infections (skin and yeast infections are the most frequent), more often than non-diabetics, and makes these infections more difficult to treat. When you get your blood sugar levels under control, the frequency of these infections will be less. Diet coke has artificial sweeteners, no real sugar, and it does not cause yeast infections or any other type of infections.

My opinion is there are worse things that uncontrolled blood sugar levels can cause, like renal damage, retinal damage, and neuropathy among others...and can also lead you to a metabolic syndrome. I hope you do get back on track with your diet and medications.

I'm not a Dr. or Nurse, I am just a diabetic but I am active in my own treatment and I do a lot of research on the subject and if I had to guess, I would guess the other way is more likely. I.E. my guess is the diabetes may be the reason you are having trouble getting the infection cleared up but I would bet the infection is causing the elevated glucose. At least that seems to be what happens to me. I get a cold and my sugar goes up. It's just that simple with me.

Diabetes is a chronic disorder. One way it occurs is when the pancreas does not secrete enough of the hormone insulin. Diabetes is commonly categorized into two types. The first type of diabetes is sometimes called insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) or juvenile-onset diabetes. It results from a shortage of insulin.

I used to get a lot of yeast infections, there really common with diabetes. just try and get your sugars down as quick as possible and in a few days it should go away,

Caneston once cream form any chemist will also sooth the itchying, redness etc
