Do Mexicans/Hispanics have less ulcers/indigestion than others? |
This question came up when talking about hot peppers (Jalape帽os, habaneras, etc) and how Americans and the non-Mexican people tend to get indigestion after eating these peppers or spicy Mexican food. One of my coworkers said that her dad used to say "Hot peppers don't cause indigestion or ulcers since Mexicans don't get ulcers or indigestion." This is what prompted the question "Is he right or just making stuff up?" Maybe Mexicans physiology has, over time, created a coating in their stomach that makes them less susceptible to indigestion or they produce some enzyme that allows them to eat spicy food with no consequences. Or maybe Americans are more susceptible because we lack an enzyme of some sort. Kind of like Black people are more susceptible to high blood pressure. Any medical references or studies comparing the susceptibility of one cultural over another getting ulcers or indigestion would be helpful. food does not cause ulcers. ulcer are caused by a bacteria Helicobacter pylori, Well we have been brought up that way we are able to handle it because we been eating it since we were babies and our stomachs know nothing else I mean in mexico there is mostly mexican food there but that is not the case with all mexicans because some don't even like spicy dishes and such! |
