Your stomach, under normal circumstances, is full of acid. When you eat, the food sits in the stomach full of acid and is broken down into very small particles so it can be digested.

If you do not have enough acid in your stomach, the food will just sit there and ferment. This is indigestion.

When the food starts to ferment, you will start to bloat as gasses build up. Now, because the stomach is still full of food, as it is not passing into the intestine to be metabolised, these gasses can cause the stomach to erupt and push the food up the esophagus. When this happens (apart from throwing the food up completely) the small amount of acid that is mixed in with the food burns the esophagus and this is called 'heartburn'.

This is mis-named 'acid reflux'. It shouldn't be called this as it is not because you have too much acid that is causing the reflux but it's as I described above.

The simple fact is that you DON'T HAVE ENOUGH acid in your stomach to break down the food.

You need more acid, not less, so don't take antacids. Instead, take a desertspoon of vinegar each day. This will increase the acids in your stomach and should relieve the discomfort you feel and settle things down.

The Gall bladder is the storage unit for these stomach acids so you need to work out which is the problem -- the Gall bladder or stomach acids.

So, you could add some Flax seed oil, Lecithin and vitamin C to your diet . The vitamin C will neutralise free radicals sufficiently in the liver so it can perform its function of producing bile -- thats what the Flax seed oil and Lecithin are for -- production of bile (stomach acids). Avocados are good for their oil and fats, too.

The fact that you are vegetarian is good as you should not only be off red meat but should also stay away from dairy.

Drink vegetable juices and lots of water (8-10 glasses per day).

If after about three weeks of this you dont feel any relief AT ALL (which I doubt) you may need to consult a naturopath on the condition of your Gall bladder -- there may be a problem there but I dont think so as you havent mentioned any pain associated with this condition.

.

Renae, All this purging could be the start of an ulcerated oesophagus. It sounds as though you have strong gastric juices.
For a start, i would change the doctor, as this is not normal to be doing this purging thing, coupled with feeling unwell.
forget the orange peel extract and have a banana, they are more soothing, and are a complete meal while you are seeking medical advice.

For indigestion I use Myalanta effervescent tablets, they work almost straight away. Make sure they are the ones to dissolve in water. Your doctor is not helping you, find a new one.

You're burning the heck out of your esophagus with your purging. Do the doctors know that you do this? Also, in regard to not feeling well, your body is probably nutrient deficient. Vegetarians commonly have this condition.... and a purging vegetarian will really have problems. I hope that you seek help and get better soon.

It sounds like you have acid reflux. I have it and before I was diagnosed I"d get indigestion no matter what I ate. But if you aren't going to take any meds I don't know what to tell you, I don't know about orange peel, I do know oranges or juice give me heartburn, I take a prescription med everyday.

No it sounds like gastric reflux. No citrus and no mint. Small meals, eat at least 3 hours before going to bed. 1/2 teaspoon soda bi carbonate in half a glass of water for severe heartburn

"Purge" usually means somebody is making themselves vomit--is that what you mean? Or do you mean you're vomiting involuntarily? If so, did you ever force yourself to vomit? (Some people who have forced themselves to vomit eventually start vomiting without trying.) That can cause all kinds of health problems and you may need to see a psychiatrist or try to find an eating disorder clinic. If you are using laxatives, please tell the doctor about that too.
If you have never deliberately made yourself vomit; try to find a gastroenterologist. I'm not sure if you went to one, or if you have only seen general practitioners. Definitely get another opinion, and and tell the doctors about the vomiting; it seems to me that the doctors you saw should have been more concerned.
I'm not sure about the orange peel extract, but I doubt if it would do as much good as open communication with another doctor. I do know orange juice made it worse when I had reflux/heartburn.

Does the doctor know that you are a vegetarian? You may be lacking some of the important things that your body needs for nutrition that you don't just get in veggies.

ginger ale is good for the tummy. when you sleep, put an extra pillow under your head so it's elevated a little bit more.chew mint gum or a life saver. Are you anxious about something?your not eating peanut butter, are you?!

hi, plz add me to your contacts,b.c cant not talk w/u b/c I have no way to contact u, but i do live in Mi, regarding the kitty swap.

you might have an acid reflux that caused your heartburn, try if drinking water could alleviate the heartburn. daily purging could just be of the fibers but you just had it in the last year while you have been a vegetarian for several years now, there could be an infection in the GI tract, id suggest you take in probiotics (yogurt, yogurt drink, lactobacillus drink)
