Gallbladder attack or Indigestion?

Saturday night, I was sitting at the movie threater (a few hours after eating pizza) - all I had there was a drink, I wasn't eating any popcorn. Anyway, I started getting this HORRIBLE pain in my upper back. Without ever having the experience of being stabbed, it's what I'd guess it feels like! I didn't have any nausea, but a little shortness of breath. It lasted maybe close to 20 - 30 minutes and then went away.

I had this once before a couple of months ago - so it's not something that happens a lot. My question is, what do you think it is? It goes without saying that I should call my doctor and I plan too, but I don't want to call my doctor and tell him I think I had a gallbladder attack if it was just indigestion. Most of the people I've read about on here, say they had nausea and even threw up with their gallbladder attacks and had them all the time.

Age: 29

Overweight (Been trying to lose weight for months, seem to gain instead of lose)

Pain seems to stay toward the middle of my back rather than one side.

Once the "attack" is over, I have a dull ache, but within an hour or two it's as if it never happened at all.

In gallbladder disease, abdominal pain that is:
* Severe
* Located on the right side (right upper quadrant) or in the upper middle of the abdomen (epigastric).
If the pain is upper back, kidney stone is suspected.
Please conduct urinalysis and ultrasound of the abdomen.

you did not mention your age.
localize the pain a bit better...if it is below your shoulder blade on either side it is possible that it is kidney..however, if it is kidney there is usually no relief from the pain, it just keeps getting worse.

if the pain is between your shoulder blades or higher tell your doctor, he will probably do an ECG or send you to cardiologist for a treadmill stress test to rule out heart involvement. Don't ignore it!
