What to eat during heartburn or indigestion?

I had very greesy food Friday noon and I started to feel indigestion at night and over the weekends it got worse until I cannot breathe smoothly and stomach bloated. Not sure if it's indigestion anymore or heartburn. I did NOT rest indeed I kept eating like big feast on weekends [spicy and yummy food]. Monday I realized, I have gone much worse and very uncomfortable. I kept drinking alka seltzer. But I'd like to know if I should eat any food today or or should I just go fasting so stomach is empty and can heal better or should I bite at all?

I suggest you stick to foods that won't place much too many demands on your digestive system - soups, broiled chicken, etc. for a couple of days. Avoid the greasy foods in the future. Instead of Alka-Seltzer, use a simethicone product for the gas and Mylanta for the acid. Alka-Seltzer is fizzy and you have enough bloat as it is.

What ever you do, do not fast. This just causes the Stomach acid to build up more. Get some chicken broth (make sure low fat or no fat) low fat crackers, chicken soup homemade is also good after you start feeling better. Eat oatmeal or grits with out any butter for breakfast. You have to let your self heal, may take a week. If you do not feel better in a day or two, see your doctor...could be heart related.

I suffer similar problems.

I reduce the acidity and indigestion by the simple remedy of a glass of cold water.

The problem with remedies, like alka seltzer, is that they tend to neutralise stomach acids and the built-in biological stomach monitors just produce more acid, requiring more alka seltzer, producing more acid, requiring............

You get the message.

I find simple things, like cucumber, or melon, soothes and cools.

In extremis, I use Gaviscon, which soothes and coats the exposed stomach linings.

Light meals of cereals help as well.

Dilute a little baking soda in water and drink it. It will cause you to burp some, but will immediately neutralize the acid. Baking soda is a base in the pH scale and it counteracts the acid. This is the quick fix to rid the pain, then...

Secondly take acidophilus and some digestive enzymes to help heal your intestines more quickly. Take 2 a day of each. If this is working, keep it up for a while and you just may "cure" your indigestion.
