Cloth or Diposable Diapers for Adult Incontinence?

I have incontinence and was wondering if it makes a difference as far as health goes whether I wear Cloth or Diposable diapers. I have gotten pretty used to disposable, but do have couple of cloth and I know economically and ecologically cloth is better. I am mostly interested in whether one is medically better than the other for any reason. If not will probably mostly use disposable as I like them more. Please no childish or rude remarks about wearing diapers, this is a serious question and I would appreciate serious answers.

I used to care for a lady who had total incontinence and we
found from trial and error that disposable were the best.
There is a brand(I've forgotten the name but your local
pharmacy would know) that has three layers. The top
layer is the soft one next to the skin, the second layer is
to absorb but the third layer pulls the liquid in away from the
body and holds it until the patient gets changed.

Did you know that Medicare will pay the cost of incontinence
supplies? Get an Rx from your Dr. and order them thru
a med. supplies company. They will ship direct to your door.

I dont see there being a medical difference at all. Wear what is comfortable and convenient for you.

have you tried the tena pads? i work with a lady who loves them. they come in different levels and are wonderful.

as for cloth, you need to make sure to change it right away as it sits on the skin. you could in fact get diaper rash, which can be a major problem if not treated. also, it's been shown that yeast infections are more common for women (don't remember if you're male or female, sorry) using any type of garment, so be careful. also disposables tend to have better abilities to collect the urine and disguise the odor.

good luck.

The serious answer is the disposables are a major ecological disaster. The only real excuse for using one is when one is on a trip. At home , I would only use cloth , but then again , I recycle a lot and most people just over stuff our overfull landfills.

I cloth diaper my toddler son, and yes cloth is more medically safe. This link has facts about baby cloth diapers, but I'd imagine the same holds true for adult diapers http://www.realdiaperassociation.org/
When I've been looking for diapers, I've found quite a few adults ones on ebay. I've also seen All In One's for adults, they don't require a cover. Best wishes to you!
