Incontinence in elderly women, what are the solutions?

Incontinence in elderly women, what are the solutions?

Incontinence is very common once women have gone thru
the change, and it isn't uncommon even before then. There
are some exercises you can do to help to tighten up the
muscles so that you don't leak in between eliminations. You
will have to concentrate to enable yourself to pull the same
muscles in your vagina up and then release them. Try to
do these clamping down exercises when you are sitting in a
straight backed chair, several times a day when you think
about it. Also on the toilet, try stopping and starting your
urine a few times til you get a feeling for what it is you need
to do when just sitting normally.
Usually the muscles tend to get slack once we've gone
through the Menopause and our sexual lives decline, or
even cease all together. Surgery is always an alternative,
but it's not the easiest thing to live with afterward for awhile.
So please try to get into a regular 'exercise' program to
start tightening up those muscles. My doctors nurse also
confirmed this information, that I already knew.
You can wear panty liners, or panty shields, or full sanitary
pads. Whatever your needs are for absorbtion. Hopefully
you won't need the adult diapers or panties that are dispos-
able. In the meantime, try the exercises for a few weeks to
give yourself the chance to 'tighten up', before considering
surgery.
Best of luck!

How elderly?....If in the eighties...then adult nappies may help.If in sixties, I believe an operation can alleviate the problem for another 20 years.Check with a doctor....your GP first who will then recommend a surgeon.
