'Erectile dysfunction' (ED) or impotence is a sexual dysfunction characterized by the inability to develop or maintain an erection of the penis. There are various underlying causes, such as diabetes, many of which are medically reversible.

The causes of erectile dysfunction may be physiological or psychological. Psychological impotence can often be helped by almost anything that the patient believes in; there is a very strong placebo effect.

Folk remedies have long been advocated, with some being advertised widely since the 1930s. The introduction of perhaps the first pharmacologically effective remedy for impotence, sildenafil (trade name Viagra), in the 1990s caused a wave of public attention, propelled in part by heavy advertising.

The Latin term impotentia coeundi describes simple inability to insert the penis into the vagina. It is now mostly replaced by more precise terms

Innability to impregnate a women.

AKA your sperm doesnt work right.
get tested by your doctor or at a clinic.

Impotence refers to not being able to get an erection. It is easy to fine out.................if you can't get an erection then you are imptotent.

Impotence , though associated with Erectile dysfunction, actually refers to low sperm count, which results in the inability to produce a child by sexual intercourse.
A pathologist can measure your Sperm count.
ED means the penis is unable to attain an erect state---which automatically will result in no ejaculation!---and hence no sperm!

Some of these answers are incorrect!

I am impotent from Diabetes. It's a well kept secret, but most men with Diabetes will eventually become impotent, and according to my doctor it is not reversible.

Not only that, but impotence does NOT mean no sperm, and it does NOT mean that you can't father a child!

I have personally experienced full ejaculation WITHOUT getting hard.

Sinply put, impotence is simply the inability to get or maintain an erection.
