Can Wellbutrin (bupropion) cause impotence?

Just started taking Wellbutrin xL 150mg three weeks ago. I noticed this past weekend that I wasnt able to maintain an erection, and at somet points, get an erection at all. When I was able to achieve orgasm, it was weak and I lost my erection soon after. This was not a problem two weeks prior.

Is this a temporary situation? Could smoking cigarettes while taking this medication contribute to this?

Wellbutrin does have sexual side effects, but are usually temporary, and when compared to other depression meds, i.e. Paxil, Clonopin, etc. it is relatively mild. Wellbutrin was originally designed as a smoking cessation medicine, but doctors found by accident that it has mood stabilizing property as well. Smoking cigs in itself can cause impotence and you shouldnt smoke while taking this med, but no truth has been found that smoking while on this med causes more or less sexual dysfunction. Good luck.

I take wellbutrin xl 300mg for three months now and feel wonderful it has not effected my sex drive at all and have lost weight on it as well.....it takes anywhere from 3 to 6 months for medication like this to really get into your system and for you to get its full affect...some one mentioned Zoloft that decreased my sex drive a lot but I am not saying they are wrong ....we are all different and react different to different meds. go to Web Md and look up side effects of the drug ask your Dr. to.....you know worrying about it and stress can do the same thing to you try and relax let the medication get into your system and see how it works then decide 3 weeks is not long enough for this medication to show good signs give it time a lot of time side effects go away once the meds are in your system

I would like to add wellbutrin can cause dry mouth so drink plenty plenty of water and keep your mouth moist brush with a tooth paste for dry mouth (I learned from personal experience) you need to do this to make the medication work better and keep your mouth and teeth healthy

I could not find any dependable data which would indicate that Wellbutrin XL 150 causes problem with erection. Ofcourse we all know that giant drug companies not 100% honest with us consumers,also in order to mention it It has to be a certain number of people who has negative reaction to the drug when they conduct the study.
