Impetigo or cold sore (oral herpes)?

Can anyone tell me the difference between impetigo or a cold sore (which I know, is HSV)? I have had this bump on my face near my mouth for over 3 weeks, it seems to get better, then gets crusty. This happens over and over again. It doesn't hurt, but it itches soooo bad all of the time. It started out as a whitehead pimple and I popped it, I should have cleaned it right after, but I just put my makeup on as usual.....I don't know, maybe this could allow bacteria in and cause impetigo? I have never had a cold sore before and it has been about 10 weeks since I last kissed someone. I am just so confused, I went to the doctor, but on the day of my appointment, it was starting to look better and he said he couldn't culture it and it didn't look like anything, then the very next day it gets bad again. argh! Any help would be awesome, thank you!

Impetigo is an infection usually caused by Staph aureus, a bacteria commonly found on the skin. It usually starts as a pustule that eventually crusts over (honey colored crusted lesions). Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus & usually starts as a cluster of painful vesicles that last for about 2 weeks & then regress. The virus remains latent in nerve cells and can become reactivated at random times, usually during stress. Since you have had this problem for 3 weeks and it's associated with crusting & itching I would lean more towards impetigo. Your dr. could give you cleocin t which is a gel you apply to the lesions, it clears it up pretty quickly.

google STDromance, and you will get more info about this. Also you may find someone with the same issue!

good luck
