Can you get MRSA from impetigo? |
I have heard a lot lately about the mrsa that is going around and I wondered if you can get it from having impetigo? By definition, impetigo is a skin infection caused by both Staph aureus and Group A Strep at the same time. That being said, sometimes it is just one or the other but TRUE impetigo is both. MRSA is a more resistant form of Staph aureus so the Staph aureus involved in your impetigo could be an MRSA type. If you've had cultures done by a properly accredited laboratory then they will have screened your Staph..all labs do and have done so for many years. You can get it from standing next to someone in the check out line that has it. Most MRSA is found in the nose and is easily transmitted. My daughter got it while in a hospital soon our entire family had it. 90,000 people a yr contract MRSA Hon, MRSA can develop in any skin break, so be particularly careful around any cut, keep it clean and at the slightest redness see your doctor. |
