Does poison ivy resemble impetigo? How long after tratment for impetigo will it clear up?

There is some resemblance, because both ailments can create blisters in the skin. The treatments are different, because poison ivy is an allergic reaction, which responds to steroids, while impetigo is a bacterial infection that needs antibiotic. Impetigo clears up in a week or ten days with treatment, but you have to be careful because, unlike poison ivy, it is contagious. (Poison ivy can spread if you still have the oil on your skin or clothes, but once the oil is washed off, you can't spread it to others.)

My daughter once caught poison ivy and impetigo at the same time from an unfortunate game of tag in the woods. Talk about misery!

Here's a link on impetigo. It is important to get a doctor to treat it. My friend had a son who ended up in the hospital on IV antibiotics because of a case of impetigo that didn't get treated soon enough.

they sort of resemble each other. Although if you think you have impetigo please go to your doctor and get some medicine. Impetigo is very contagious and i assume the people you are around really do not want it.

Impetigo is a bacterial infection of the skin. It causes weeping lesions that scab over but still weep. It won't go away by itself and is highly contagious.
A cheap home remedy is to bathe 3 times a day in water with some bleach added to it (not too much, about as much as you would find in a swimming pool) for about 5 days. If it's on your feet, change your socks often. Alternatively, you could go to the doc and get a script for antibiotics.
Poison ivy forms intensely itchy blisters about 18-24 hours after contact with the plant. At first they occur on the skin where the contact first occurred, but as the immune system responds, the blisters spread. Scratching them makes them spread more and provides little relief. This conditon can last for weeks. The best ointment I've found for it is called Diprolene. It may still be by script only, but it kills it in 3 days. Taking Benadryl orally helps with the itching, and the doctor can also give you anti-itching medication.

I guess it could resemble poison ivy. My 6 year-old daughter developed a small pimple on her chin in late January of this year. She said that it itched. A few days later it had developed into a dime size asymmetrical red patch that looked very dry. Her pediatrician diagnosed her with impetigo and prescribed Mupirocin (generic Bactroban) ointment. We used it regularly and I even kept a band-aid on it to keep her from rubbing off the medication or touching it. This little booger hung on until early APRIL.

When my daughter was an infant she developed a pea-sized blister of impetigo on her bottom that cleared up in days with the same medication.

I would see a doctor to be sure and get an official diagnosis. You can get impetigo from just about anything and anywhere. Impetigo is a form of staph infection and if not treated, can possibly cause other problems. I would definitely keep a safe distance from babies in whom impetigo can cause the more serious problems. Good Luck...

Yes i think it dose look a little like impetigo at the beginning off the condition. you should get treatment from your doctors which is usually antibiotic's then it should clear up within 14 days.
