Is impetigo a virus or bacteria???

Can it be cured with over the counter medicines??

Impetigo is a disease state where there will be skin lesions which erupt and emits a honey coloured crust. It is caused most commonly by bacteria Staphylococcus.aureus or Streptococcus.pyogenes,the former who is a normal flora on the skin.
Impetigo can be treated with antibiotic such as Vancomycin or cloxacillin provided it is not caused by MRSA(methicillin resistant Staphylococcus.aureus)....as antibiotic cannot be bought over the counter it is better to see a doctor to prescribe it....hope this helps

A bacterial skin infection. If it is only in a small spot, you can try peroxide rinses and using a triple antibiotic for a couple days.after 3 days if it isn't better go to the dr. Children get this a lot and it comes from being dirty. Nightly baths are in order.

Go to the doctor and get the prescription ointment. It's a staph infection
