I have impetigo and was wondering if I put my differin gel for acne on the sore if it would make it worse?

I have been using bactroban and hydrogen peroxide but it is really unsightly and I was hoping that maybe the differin gel I use for my acne would dry it up quicker

Yup, impetigo is gross. The pustules and blisters are really ugly and tend to be in very visible spots.

It is caused by a Staph or Strep bacteria which have to be killed before it will go away. Bactroban and peroxide are designed to kill bacteria but between the two Bactroban is better targeted to kill those bacteria and less irritating to the skin.

Differin is useless at getting rid of those bacteria and can irritate the skin further when it is put on. With acne it can make things worse for a couple of weeks before it gets better.

Normally I would expect impetigo to be gone within those two weeks.

So would I use Differin on impetigo, No. Not unless the doctor gave me a very good reason to (and even then I would probably want a second opinion)
